MASSIVE is a social platforming adventure set in an upbeat world of collaboration, competition, and discovery.
Leading creative and design at Very Very Spaceship, I started a prototyping practice to come up with new games, technologies, and ventures. One of those games, MASSIVE, turned into a full fledged project within the studio.
In summer of 2023, I pitched internally to greenlight the project and led a small team to develop a multiplayer demo, focusing early efforts on creating a framework for rapid iteration. By early 2024, the team grew to around a dozen contributers. While MASSIVE was well-received at DICE and GDC 2024, the project was canceled in June when VVS refocused on co-development, shelving original IPs like MASSIVE. You could say that 2024 finally caught up to VVS.
My experience as a game designer, engineer, and artist helped me efficiently steer the project, meet deadlines, and avoid crunch. I worked closely with contributors to assess timelines and thoughtfully reduce scope, pivoting away from completed work only when absolutely necessary.
